What is Cloud Computing | Like the one on Wikipedia that cloud computing is a combination of the use of technology (computing) and the development of Internet-based (cloud). Cloud computing is a method of computing where IT capabilities are provided as an internet-based services.
Let more understand more about cloud computing itself, I love simple picture. We can imagine it as a cloud computing power network. If we need power, we do not have to have a power plant. We just need to contact the service provider of electricity, ie PLN to connect our homes to the electricity grid and we just enjoy it. And we do the payment in accordance with the amount of usage.
If electricity can it so, why could not computing services? For example, if a company requires the application of CRM (Customer Relationship Management). Why would the company have to buy the app, buy the hardware for the server and have to hire dedicated IT experts to keep the servers and applications?
Well, this is where the role of cloud computing. In the example above, the company has been providing Microsoft CRM application which can directly be used by companies who need earlier. Companies that need it just call the company Microsoft to connect its (in this case via the internet) with CRM applications and stay wear. And payments are made per month, per quarter, per semester, per year, or according to the contract made. So, companies that require the application of CRM before, no need to make an initial investment to purchase server hardware and IT experts. That's one of the benefits of cloud computing that can save a company's budget.
Cloud computing has three levels of service provided to users, namely:
- Infrastructure as service, this includes Grid for virtualized server, storage & networks. Such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud and Simple Storage Service.
- Platform as a service, it is focused on applications where in this case a developer does not need to think about hardware and remain focused on the making of the application without worrying about operating systems, infrastructure scaling, load balancing and others. Examples of this are already implementing Force.com and Microsoft Azure investment.
- Software as a service: This focuses on applications with Web-based interface that is accessible through Web Services and Web 2.0. An example is Google Apps, SalesForce.com and social networking applications such as FaceBook.
The investor is trying to explore the adoption of cloud computing technology to make businesses like Google and Amazon already have a special offer on cloud technology. And also Microsoft and IBM do not want to lose in this case, they also have to invest millions of dollars for this.
Can be sure that the front of cloud computing will become a trend, technology standards will be moderate because of the availability of the cloud service.
Advantages of Cloud Computing
- Save the initial investment costs for the purchase of resources.
- Can save time so that the companies can direct your focus to profit and grow quickly.
- Operational and management make it easier for private systems / enterprises that are connected in a cloud can be monitored and managed with ease.
- A trusted collaboration and slimmer.
- low operational costs at realibility want to promote and critical information systems are built.
Lack of Cloud Computing
Computer becomes slow or does not work at all if the internet problem or overloaded. And also hire the services of enterprise cloud computing does not have direct access to resources. So, all depends on the condition of the vendor / service provider cloud computing. If the vendor server backup is corrupted or have bad service, the company will suffer huge losses.
